Why SEO agencies struggle to keep content flowing

Audits and strategy are where your team shines. The monthly content that every retainer promises is where margins disappear.

Content eats the margin

Briefing writers, chasing drafts, editing, sourcing images and uploading to a dozen different CMSs. Each client's articles take hours of account manager time that the retainer doesn't really cover.

Every client sounds different

A dental practice, a software company and a local builder each need their own voice, audience and topics. Writers switching between them lose the nuance, and clients notice.

AI answers changed the brief

Clients now ask why a competitor shows up in Google's AI answers and they don't. You need content written to be quoted and a way to show how those answers describe each client.

Your own marketing comes last

You publish for clients every week, while the agency's own blog and LinkedIn haven't moved since the last pitch. The cobbler's children have no shoes.

Your week with Maggie

Twelve client sites, one approval queue, content out by Friday.

It's Monday. Your agency has twelve retainers, three writers on holiday and a new client, a regional kitchen fitter, who signed last week and expects their first articles this month.

You add the fitter's website to your cmo.so account next to the others. Maggie reads it and writes their brand profile: fitted kitchens and worktops in three counties, homeowners planning a renovation, the showroom, the big-box retailers they compete with, and a friendly, practical voice. Your account manager corrects one thing: they no longer fit bathrooms. Search Console is connected, so the plan starts from the queries the site already gets.

By Wednesday the drafts are waiting across your clients, each in its own voice and look: a buying guide to worktop materials for the kitchen fitter, an explainer for a software client, a Google Business offer for a dental practice. Your team works through one approval queue, edits a few headlines and approves the rest. Each client's posts go out on their own schedule, and every one is reported back with its link.

At month end, Search Console in cmo.so shows which articles brought clicks for each site, and AI visibility shows how Google's AI answers now describe each client. Meanwhile, Maggie has also been posting on your own agency's blog and LinkedIn, from its own brand profile.

What you get with Maggie

A content team that scales with your client list

Each of those problems has an answer, and your team still decides what goes out on every client's site.

A brand profile for every client

Add each client's website and Maggie builds its own brand profile: products, audience, unique selling points, SWOT, competitors and voice. Each site gets its own channels, schedule and approvals, all in one account.

Multi-site

Published straight to client sites

Articles written for Google and for AI answers, published to WordPress (via the cmo.so plugin, including WooCommerce), Shopify, Wix, Webflow, or any other site through the cmo.so API. No copying and pasting into each CMS.

Publishing

Search Console and AI visibility per site

Connect Search Console and Maggie plans from each site's real search data. AI visibility shows how Google's AI answers describe each client, so you can show the change over time.

Reporting

Social and local posts too

One idea becomes a post for each channel in its own style: LinkedIn and Google Business, with Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok in beta. Add social and local posting to retainers without adding headcount.

Every channel

One queue for your whole team

Add account managers and editors in Me → Team with presets such as editor or manager. Approvals are on by default and set per channel, so trusted channels can run on autopilot.

Team approvals

Your own agency, finally marketed

Add your agency's website too, and your own blog and LinkedIn get the same steady attention as your clients'. Ask Maggie from ChatGPT or Claude, or use the MCP server and CLI.

How it works

From a client's website to a monthly content plan in four steps

  1. Add each client's website

Maggie reads it and drafts that client's brand profile in minutes.

  2. Check the profile

Your account manager corrects services and audience, connects Search Console and picks the channels.

  3. Review the drafts

Articles and posts arrive with pictures for every client. Approve, edit or skip each one.

  4. Let them go out

Approved posts go out on each client's schedule and every one comes back with its link.

Your other options

Why not just…

The usual ways SEO agencies produce client content, and where each one runs out.

…hire more in-house writers?

A full-time marketing hire in the UK costs around £3,000 a month before tools, and each writer can only cover so many clients. Maggie handles the volume so your writers can focus on the pieces that need them.

…keep a bench of freelancers?

Freelancers are flexible, but briefing, chasing, editing and uploading still land on your account managers. Maggie writes from each client's brand profile and publishes straight to their site.

…use a generic AI writing tool?

You still brief every article, add images, format it and upload it yourself, and it doesn't remember the client. Maggie keeps a profile for every site and runs the whole loop to the published link.

…outsource to a content provider?

Bulk content services save time but read the same for every client, and the margin goes to them. Maggie writes in each client's own voice, inside your own account.

Questions SEO agencies ask

Marketing automation for SEO agencies: your questions

Still unsure?

What is marketing automation for SEO agencies?

It's software that does the repeating content work of an SEO agency: researching each client, planning topics, writing articles and posts, making pictures and publishing them to client sites on schedule.

With cmo.so, Maggie does all of it for every client website in your account, and nothing goes out until your team approves it.

How do SEO agencies get more clients online?

SEO agencies get more clients online by practising what they sell: useful articles on their own site, regular LinkedIn posts that show their thinking, and clear proof of results for the clients they already have.

Maggie runs your agency's own blog and LinkedIn alongside your clients', and Search Console and AI visibility in cmo.so give you the numbers to show.

How much does cmo.so cost for an SEO agency?

Plans are per website and billed monthly, so each client site has its own plan. There's a free plan with no card needed, Air is £15 a month (two posts a day), Pro £45 a month for several channels, Max £75 a month, and Elite £195 a month (96 posts a day, made for agencies and many brands).

Founding members get lower prices for good on every plan until 1 January 2027. You can cancel any time, and published posts stay on the client's site.

Which channels should SEO agencies start with for clients?

Most start with the client's blog, because that's what search and AI answers read, plus Google Business for clients who serve a local area.

Add LinkedIn for B2B clients. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok are in beta. Each channel has its own posting times and queue for each client.

How does cmo.so keep each client's voice separate?

Each website in your account has its own brand profile, voice, channels, schedule and approvals, so a law firm's posts never borrow a bakery's tone.

Maggie learns from your team's edits on each site separately, and she picks a voice, post template and picture look per channel.

Does it write for AI search as well as Google?

Yes. Articles are written with clear, quotable answers to the questions each client's customers ask, which is what both Google and AI tools draw on.

AI visibility in cmo.so shows how Google's AI answers currently describe each client, so you can follow the change over time. Nobody can promise a ranking or a mention, and cmo.so doesn't.

Which CMSs can it publish to?

cmo.so publishes to WordPress through the cmo.so plugin (including WooCommerce), Shopify, Wix and Webflow, and to any other website through the cmo.so API.

Each published post is reported back with its link, which makes monthly reporting simpler.

Can we use Search Console data for client reporting?

Yes. Connect each client's Search Console and cmo.so shows what their posts bring in, and Maggie uses the data to plan topics.

Search Console data is only used to show the site's own results and plan its content, never for advertising or to train AI models.

What about regulated clients such as clinics or financial advisers?

Turn on Content Policy Guard for those sites and posts are checked against financial, medical, insurance, legal or education rules, or the client's own house rules. A risky post is held as a draft with a suggested rewrite.

These are AI suggestions, not legal or compliance advice. A qualified person should still review, and the client stays responsible for what it publishes.

Is it safe to let AI publish to client websites?

Yes, because nothing goes out until your team approves it. Approvals are on by default and set per channel, and any channel can be paused.

Social channels connect through each platform's official sign-in, so cmo.so never sees passwords, and cmo.so never sells or rents your or your clients' data.

What happens if a client leaves?

Cancel that website's plan. It runs to the end of the paid month, then goes back to the free plan.

Everything already published stays on the client's site, because it's their content.
